Overview
D&B Engineers and Architects is hiring a Senior Accountant. This is an exciting opportunity to join our collaborative team of experienced engineers, architects, scientists and other professionals. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for financial reporting, month-end close, project accounting, accounts receivable, and account reconciliations. The position will also serve as a key contributor to the administration, improvement, and future upgrade of the firm’s project accounting ERP system. The ideal candidate has strong accounting fundamentals, excellent analytical skills, and experience in a project-based engineering, architecture, construction, or professional-services environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly financial reports, perform variance analysis, and investigate significant budget-to-actual and period-over-period variances.
- Prepare, post, and review journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, payroll, project-related entries, and other general ledger adjustments.
- Perform and review bank and balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Record and reconcile project accounting activity, including work in process, revenue recognition, project costs, and related accruals.
- Manage accounts receivable and collections, including coordinating with project managers and clients on outstanding invoices.
- Review contracts to ensure appropriate application of payment provisions, including paid-when-paid terms.
- Review accounts payable payment batches and employee expense reports for accuracy, compliance, and proper coding.
- Assist with payroll processing and related accounting reconciliations.
- Administer and support the firm's project accounting ERP system, including troubleshooting, reporting, testing, system enhancements, and future migration activities.
- Develop and maintain Excel-based financial reports, reconciliations, and analyses using advanced functions such as XLOOKUP and pivot tables.
- Assist with annual audits, sales tax filings, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Develop, document, and improve accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Supervise, train, and review the work of accounting staff as needed.
- Provide cross-functional accounting support and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with project accounting, is required.
- Experience with a project ERP system is required, BST Global experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of WIP accounting and paid-when-paid concepts.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Schedule
Monday through Friday.
Salary Range
$85,000 – $110,000
