SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

About the role

The Senior Accountant is an exempt position that reports to the Assistant Controller and the Chief Financial Officer. The role involves a variety of accounting tasks, including preparing journal entries, reconciling GL accounts, and supporting special projects. The position ensures accuracy and compliance with accounting policies and procedures, prepares supporting documents for monthly financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, and mentors Staff Accountants.

Responsibilities

• Create, maintain, verify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems.
• Prepare supporting documents for monthly financial statements.
• Post journal entries and approve electronic transfers and payments.
• Review sales tax returns and submit online payments; ensure timely and accurate tax payments.
• Prepare sales commission payments and reconcile payroll benefit deductions.
• Prepare VAT tax returns for France and Netherlands.
• Review and update BOM (Bill of Materials) for annual builds of electronic units.
• Roll costs for BOMs and review item costs, list prices, contract pricing, labor, and overhead allocations.
• Maintain item information, including pricing setup for new items, standard cost updates, cost rolls, and variance analysis.
• Review account and inventory reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
• Perform month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Prepare and review audit work papers for external auditors.
• Identify and recommend business and financial process enhancements for senior management.
• Support ERP system maintenance related to accounting and inventory modules.
• Mentor and provide guidance to Staff Accountants.
• Conduct various projects as assigned.
• Handle and process all aspects of item setup in ERP and document control systems.
• Review bill of materials, including materials and operations, to ensure cost is correctly recorded.
• Perform various account reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Identify and initiate process enhancements to increase the efficiency of the accounting department.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• 5+ years of professional accounting experience.
• Ability to apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in adapting to new computer programs and software for efficient data gathering and analysis.
• Ability to research, compile, analyze, and interpret data.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

• Largely a sedentary role; some filing is required, which may involve lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or standing as necessary.
• Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Frequently communicates with vendors regarding payment confirmation inquiries; must be able to exchange accurate information.
