About the role
The Senior Accountant helps keep the organization's financial records accurate and up to date. This position works closely with the President/CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and the finance team to support the organization's mission to serve youth and families.
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports.
- Record journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts.
- Review financial records for errors and correct them when needed.
- Help prepare financial reports for leadership.
- Accounting Operations
- Help complete the monthly and year-end close.
- Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash transactions for accuracy.
- Maintain the chart of accounts.
- Keep fixed asset and depreciation records up to date.
- Help manage cash and banking activities.
- Ensure accounting records follow GAAP and nonprofit accounting rules.
- Grant Accounting
- Track grant income and expenses.
- Help ensure grant funds are spent according to grant rules.
- Prepare financial reports for grantors.
- Work with program staff to monitor grant budgets.
- Keep records that support grant expenses.
- Audit and Compliance
- Prepare schedules and documents for the annual audit.
- Respond to requests from auditors.
- Help prepare information needed for IRS Form 990 and other required reports.
- Help ensure the organization follows federal, state, and local financial rules.
- Keep financial records organized and complete.
- Internal Controls
- Follow the organization's accounting policies and procedures.
- Help improve accounting processes.
- Help maintain strong internal controls to protect the organization's assets.
- Teamwork
- Help train and support accounting staff.
- Review work prepared by other accounting team members.
- Work closely with the contract CFO and other staff to solve accounting questions.
- Support Club leaders and program staff with financial information when needed.
- Multi-Site Support
- Help support accounting for all Club locations.
- Review financial activity from each location for accuracy.
- Answer accounting questions from Club staff.
- Help keep accounting practices consistent across all locations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least five years of accounting experience.
- Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
- Good understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting.
- Experience preparing financial statements and completing month-end close.
- Experience with grant accounting is preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred).

Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CPA candidate.
- Experience with Sage Intacct.
- Experience working for a nonprofit organization.
- Experience with multi-location accounting.
- Experience supporting financial audits.
- Experience preparing Form 990 schedules.
- Knowledge of federal grant requirements.
