About the role

Black Sheep Coffee is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented and hands-on Senior Accountant to join our team in our Miami office. As the first Finance hire in the US, you will provide support across all areas of Finance and gain exposure to a rapidly scaling business during its entry into the US market. This role offers a well-rounded experience in the Finance Department of an exciting scale-up, including management accounting, account reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and supporting new store openings. You will report to the US Finance Business Partner (UK based) with direct exposure to the Founders/Co-CEOs (both based in Miami).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in reconciling bank transactions and general ledger accounts to maintain up-to-date and accurate financial records.
  • Support all aspects of the month-end close process, including journal preparation, accruals, prepayments, and detailed balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Deliver insightful reporting and analysis by preparing monthly reports for business leaders that provide key insights and highlight critical information to support informed decision-making.
  • Play a key role in high-impact, cross-functional task forces driving US market entry, providing finance support for supply chain build-out, new store launches, product rollouts, and marketing campaigns.
  • Assist with providing support and information to UK and US auditors.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies, or automation within accounting workflows.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisers and provide the information required to enable them to prepare and file monthly tax returns, including state sales and use tax returns.

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience working within a Finance or Accounting function, with hands-on exposure to month-end close, journal entries, general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience in retail, hospitality, restaurant, or multi-site businesses preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including intermediate skills with Excel.
  • Able to take a hands-on approach, solve problems efficiently, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, growing environment.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in data and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with an interest in solving problems and optimizing processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
