About the Role

Physical AI will decide the balance of power for the next century. It runs on components built by Original Component Manufacturers at the base of America's most critical supply chains. The bottleneck isn't workforce, it's workflow, which AIC solves by deploying our software operating system to unlock trapped capacity in the companies we acquire by empowering the talented operators who have built those enterprises. AIC is a software-led industrial holding company. We built our operating system on a proprietary framework called Decision Physics™. Our team deploys on-site to modernize the decision-making infrastructure that changes what a factory can do. We don't sell SaaS. Our mission is to secure America's position as the global leader in physical AI. We call ourselves Software Industrialists. We run toward complexity, not away from it.

None of that works without books you can trust. Every operating decision we make, every capital allocation, every software deployment gets judged against numbers that come out of the plants. This role produces those numbers. Please note this is an on-site role, 5x a week. You are employed by the portfolio company itself and you sit with the people who build the product — not a visitor, not a consultant, and not corporate oversight parachuting in at quarter-end. Your reporting package goes straight to AIC.

Responsibilities

  • Run day-to-day accounting for a real operating company: AR, AP, collections, cash application, bank and credit card reconciliations, payroll journal entries, fixed assets and depreciation, prepaids and accruals, sales and use tax, 1099s, and the general ledger itself. You are the accounting function, and you have the plant's bookkeeper or office manager working with you.
  • Get inventory and cost right: raw material, WIP, and finished goods valuation; cycle counts and physical inventory; standard costs, purchase price variance, scrap, labor and overhead absorption, and job costing against actual routings. In these businesses, this is where the margin story lives and where the books most often break.
  • Bring an inherited set of books onto AIC's standard. Most companies we acquire have been closing loosely for thirty years — cash-basis habits, side spreadsheets, a chart of accounts built by accretion, no formal close calendar. You map to AIC's chart of accounts, establish a close checklist, clean up the balance sheet, and get to a defensible opening balance sheet post-close.
  • Handle the accounting side of the deal and what follows: purchase accounting entries, working capital true-ups, audit and review requests, tax package prep for outside CPAs, and the lender or covenant reporting that comes with acquisition financing.
  • Support customer and contract requirements: progress billings and milestone invoicing, government invoicing portals, job-level cost tracking, and the documentation that aerospace, defense, and government-contracting customers expect. Where a company has flow-down obligations, you keep the accounting records that support them.
  • Run the back-office administration: benefits enrollment and life-event changes, new-hire and termination paperwork, I-9s and personnel files, PTO tracking, workers' compensation and 401(k) census and audit support, open enrollment alongside the company's broker, and the payroll run itself. At this size these tasks sit with whoever owns the back office, and that's you. Employee relations, discipline and terminations, investigations, and anything that starts to look like a legal question route to AIC — you administer the programs, you do not own HR.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience, including full ownership of a month-end close.
  • Manufacturing accounting experience — inventory, WIP, standard cost, job costing, and variance analysis in a production environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the judgment to know when it actually matters at this size of company.
  • Comfortable being the only accountant in the building. You set your own priorities, close your own gaps, and escalate early rather than late.
  • Fluent in an ERP and in Excel. You've survived at least one system that didn't work the way the vendor promised.
  • Willing to own back-office administration beyond the ledger — benefits, onboarding paperwork, payroll — and organized enough that it never crowds out the close.
  • An accountant, not a finance professional. This is not an FP&A or corporate development role. We are not looking for someone who wants to build models and graduate out of the ledger — we're looking for someone who takes pride in owning the books.

Nice to Have

  • CPA or CMA.
  • Government contracting exposure — FAR/DFARS cost principles, allowable vs. unallowable costs, indirect rate pools, DCAA-adequate accounting systems, incurred cost submissions.
  • Experience at a company acquired by, or operating inside, a PE firm or holding company.
  • ERP implementation, migration, or cleanup experience (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Epicor, Global Shop, JobBOSS/E2, Infor VISUAL, Made2Manage, or similar).
  • Experience with an audit, quality of earnings, or first-time review at a company that had never been through one.
  • Hard-tech, electronics, or precision manufacturing background.

Benefits

Medical, Dental, Vision benefits through the portfolio company's plan.

PTO per the portfolio company's policy.

Pay

Base salary range $105,000 – $155,000.
