About the role
The main responsibility of the Safety Officer is to ensure that employees are following established policies and safety regulations and to help create safer work sites.
Responsibilities
- Implement site safety plan and ensure all procedures are in line with the organization safety policies.
- Conduct Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, Job Hazard Analysis and implement control measures.
- Conduct job sites safety audit which includes completion of documentation of compliance and corrective actions taken.
- Make regular inspections of the work area and equipment used by employees for safety compliance.
- Perform routine site safety inspection and reporting.
- Inspect the workplace and conditions to determine the presence of hazards.
- Ensure that employees are using the required personal protective equipment (PPE) to safely perform job tasks.
- Conduct site employee toolbox talks prior to the start of duties.
- Review accidents and incidents to determine cause and implement plans to prevent reoccurrence.
- Investigate work injuries, document findings and recommendations, and submit reports to the related department.
- Report safety violations to Department Heads and the HR department.
- Raise non-compliance reports for any deviations in health, safety, and environment rules and regulations.
- Administer the safety awareness program to ensure a safety culture among the workforce.
- Maintain safety statistics for the area of responsibility.
- Establish and maintain all safety and health record-keeping systems.
- Conduct safety orientation programs for new employees and sub-contractors.
- Supervise medical facilities, medical records setup and retention, and set up procedures and training for emergencies, including serious accidents, fire, and evacuation.
- Review all subcontractor’s safety programs for compliance with BMECO policies and company’s safety instructions.
- Monitor HSE activities and implement safe work practices (e.g., work at heights, lifting operations, electrical installations, material handling, hot work, fire protection, and proper wearing of PPE).
- Follow procedures on accident investigations, injuries, and near misses occurring on-site.
- Develop health and safety policies.
- Ensure the company is up to date with public health and employment safety legislation.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of records and transactions.
