About the role

The College of Music at the University of North Texas is seeking a Senior Academic Advisor to join its Undergraduate Advising team. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive academic advising to undergraduate students, including guidance on degree and program requirements, course selection, and academic planning. The Senior Academic Advisor will play a key role in promoting student success by supporting students in achieving their educational and career goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and organization for the College of Music Audition Days.
  • Represent the College of Music at all audition days, including facilitating meetings for parents and students as needed.
  • Attend prospective student/parent functions such as NT Preview Day to assist in presenting information concerning music programs and to answer questions.
  • Help with the operation of graduation ceremonies, help with planning and organization of other Music Advising Office special events, providing support as needed.
  • Advises students regarding University requirements and individual program requirements, including applicability of transfer credits in a timely and professional manner.
  • Develops and provides assessments of retention initiatives.
  • Prepares accurate degree audit templates/guides for each program major.
  • Confers with faculty or administrator with regard to academic policy issues, such as acceptable course substitutes for a particular degree.
  • Provide academic counseling to students who are on probation, academic alert, or COM At Risk, maintaining thorough knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and resources.
  • Aid in the development, tracking, and notification of At Risk music majors.
  • Prepare and update degree audits, student records using advising technology.
  • Act as coteam lead in receiving and processing applications for graduation.
  • Perform quality reviews.
  • Act as coteam lead in processing CPT requests.
  • Advises, as needed, special student populations included Study Abroad incoming and outgoing students requiring advanced knowledge of programs and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.
  • Strong presentation, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Advanced academic advising expertise.
  • Ability to integrate and analyze information and develop reports.
  • Ability to use a variety of complex computer applications.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects and work teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with populations verbally and in writing with internal and external groups in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
