About the role
We are currently seeking a SEND Specialist Practitioner to join our Foundation Learning and Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.
You play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Specialist SEND Support & Intervention Delivery – Plan and deliver targeted 1:1 sessions, small groups and workshops for learners with SEND (Neurodiversity, SEMH, SpLD), enabling access to the curriculum and promoting independence.
- Inclusive Practice & Staff Development – Support curriculum staff to embed inclusive teaching strategies, deliver cross‑college CPD and promote disability awareness to enhance teaching, learning and assessment.
- Innovative Learning & Assistive Technology – Apply specialist teaching approaches and accessible technologies to remove barriers to learning and support student engagement, progress and independence.
- Progress Monitoring, EHCP & Collaboration – Track learner attendance and progress, contribute to EHCP reviews, set targets and work closely with ALS teams, curriculum staff and external agencies.
- Professional Practice, Engagement & Compliance – Build effective relationships with learners and staff, contribute to quality processes and events, and uphold safeguarding, EDI, health & safety and CPD requirements.
About you
- Qualifications & SEND Specialism – A Levels with GCSE English and maths, alongside a Degree or Level 5 qualification in a SEND specialism (ASD, SpLD, SEMH), supported by strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
- SEND Expertise & Learner Support – Extensive experience supporting learners with SEND and EHCPs in FE, including one-to-one support, leading meetings and addressing a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Communication, Reporting & Professional Practice – Excellent communication skills across all formats, able to produce high-quality reports, maintain confidentiality and build effective relationships with students, staff and external stakeholders.
- Organisation, IT & Collaborative Working – Highly organised with strong IT, administrative and record-keeping skills, able to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and collaborate effectively across curriculum and support teams.
- Professional Values, Flexibility & Safeguarding – Committed to safeguarding, equality and College values, adaptable and proactive with a learner-centred approach, willing to travel across sites and continuously develop professional skills.

Benefits
The salary is between £35,894 and £47,971 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 35 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
