Job Location: 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, New York, United States, 14642

Full-time, 40 scheduled weekly hours (evening shift)

Compensation range: $18.38 - $24.94 (first and last step pay rates per collective bargaining agreement)

Responsibilities

• Performs general heavy and light cleaning and housekeeping services in University buildings (residence halls, hospital, administration/academic buildings, etc.)
• Operates a variety of light or heavy-duty housekeeping and floor maintenance machines and equipment to strip, wax, and buff floors; wet mops, dry mops, sweeps, and dusts floors
• Performs cleaning and disinfecting procedures by fogging rooms and washing floors, walls, furniture, and fixtures with germicidal detergents
• Washes walls, ceilings, and stairs; cleans overhead equipment such as vents and light fixtures; vacuums rugs, furniture, draperies, etc.
• Cleans, dusts, and waxes furniture; makes empty beds; distributes linen
• Takes down, washes, and rehangs venetian blinds, screens, draperies, and curtains; washes windows inside and outside
• Empties wastebaskets into pickup containers; picks up trash from designated areas; loads trash into large dump truck and pushes to compactor area
• Washes large trash cans, wastebaskets, blackboards, doors, and similar surfaces; cleans kitchens and dining areas
• Performs custodial duties such as moving equipment/furniture, tightening doorknobs and latch plates, adjusting traverse rods, cleaning elevator door tracks, changing light bulbs, and shoveling snow
• Maintains cleanliness of work storage closet and equipment used; performs other similar duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility

• Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach continuously
• Ability to handle heavy and medium-weight material, equipment, and supplies
• Exposure to refuse, dirt, dust, detergents, body wastes, odors, and occasional risk of contact with infection and infectious diseases (indoors and outdoors)

• Automatic scrubbing machines, strippers, waxers, buffers, polishers
• Wall washing equipment, rug shampoo machines, vacuum equipment
• Wet and dry mops, dusters, sponges, pails
• Small and large trash pick-up trucks, small flat-bed trucks
• Ladders and small tools (hammer, screwdriver, pliers, etc.)
