About the role

Performs nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures on patients in accordance with physicians’ orders.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for nuclear medicine procedures by explaining the procedure to be performed, preparing/administering radio pharmaceuticals, and properly positioning patients for the imaging procedure.
• Performs nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures on patients in accordance with physicians’ orders.
• Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the radiologist in a timely manner.
• Prepares and maintains patient records and files.
• Assumes responsibility for maintaining radiation detection equipment and nuclear medicine examination rooms; performs quality control tests to assure all equipment is functioning properly and initiates corrective action as necessary.
• Maintains an adequate inventory of nuclear medicine supplies; orders supplies as needed.
• Schedules patient appointments.
• Leads and/or participates on various hospital committees/task forces such as the Radiation Safety Committee and other customer service initiatives; attends meetings and in-service programs.
• Trains and conducts in-services on radiation safety and protection procedures for hospital staff.
• Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives.
• Adheres to the organization’s policies & procedures and compliance guidelines.

Requirements

• American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) nuclear medicine certification or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) licensure is required within one year of board eligibility.
• Completion of an accredited Radiology Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology program.

Skills

• Knowledge and understanding of usage of radio pharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine imaging techniques.
• Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and hospital policies related to the radiology function including HIPAA confidentiality and JCAHO mandates.
• Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other hospital staff in the exchange of information, including the ability to communicate technical information in non-technical terms.
• Analytical ability to calculate radio pharmaceutical concentrations and dosages.
• Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, deal with the emotional needs/concerns of patients, complete multiple nuclear medicine exams in a timely manner, and work on tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail.
• Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
