About the role

MS NOW is expanding its breaking news team to cover overnight developments and produce taped packages for Morning Joe. This role involves live breaking news coverage, producing original content for Morning Joe, and assembling highlight shows from MS NOW’s primetime lineup. The position is represented by the Writers Guild of America East.

Responsibilities

  • Create live segments with reporters and guests during breaking news coverage.
  • Work under deadline pressure to monitor, edit, and turn around video, graphics, and information.
  • Assist in the control room during breaking news situations.
  • Write and produce taped news packages for Morning Joe, including developing story angles, gathering elements, working with editors, selecting sound and video, writing scripts, and delivering final pieces.
  • Assemble taped hours compiled from existing MS NOW shows.
  • Deliver taped shows to master control.
  • Support the social media team in monitoring and creating content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong writing skills and knowledge of American politics.
  • At least 5 years of journalism experience (cable/network news, digital, or print).
  • Demonstrated experience producing taped news packages or edit-driven segments, including script writing, video/sound selection, and working with editors under deadline.
  • Ability to handle daily script deadlines under pressure.
  • Willingness to work overnight hours as part of a 4-day, 10-hour schedule, including flexible hours during breaking news.
  • Must be based in New York, NY, with unrestricted U.S. work authorization.

  • Strong knowledge of current events, politics, and pop culture.
  • Experience in breaking news.
  • Edit room experience.

Pay

Salary range: $93,000–$110,000.
