About the role

The American Red Cross seeks local volunteers to join the Disaster Action Team, providing 24-hour emergency response—primarily to house fires—ensuring affected individuals have access to food, shelter, clothing, and other basic necessities.

As a caring individual on the front lines of emergency support, you’ll make a meaningful impact in your community by helping those displaced by local disasters such as severe storms and home fires.

Responsibilities

• Complete required trainings to support families and individuals affected by local emergencies.
• Sign up for on-call shifts to respond when needed.
• Demonstrate compassion and respect for all clients while maintaining confidentiality.
• Connect clients with Red Cross and other resources to meet their immediate needs (shelter, food, clothing, medication, etc.).
• Make referrals to Red Cross Mental Health, Spiritual Care, and Health Services when necessary.
• Consider advanced training to assist with larger-scale national disasters in leadership roles.

Requirements

• Passion for the Red Cross mission.
• Basic computer skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• Flexibility to respond to emergencies.
• COVID-19 vaccination is strongly encouraged and required for in-person volunteer roles.
