The American Red Cross, through its strong network of volunteers, donors and partners, is always there in times of need. We aspire to turn compassion into action so that all people affected by disaster receive care, shelter and hope; communities are ready and prepared for disasters; everyone has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products; members of our armed services and their families find support and comfort; and trained individuals are nearby in emergencies, ready to save lives.
About the role
Your local American Red Cross office is seeking volunteers to help provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. This is a great way to give back to your community in a meaningful way.
Responsibilities
- Take required trainings to support families/individuals displaced by local emergencies including severe storms, home fires, and more
- Sign up for on-call shifts to be available to respond if needed
- Show compassion and respect for all clients while maintaining confidentiality
- Help connect clients with Red Cross and other resources to meet their most basic needs (shelter, food, clothing, medication, etc.) and make referrals for Mental Health, Spiritual Care, and Health Services when needed
- Consider training to assist with larger-scale national disasters in basic and advanced leadership roles
