Security Training Specialist - Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center FT Days

Responsibilities

  • Delivers and refines an integrated, multi-modality performance-management training framework for Public Safety Officers and security support staff, including new employee training, annual training, remedial/refresher training, new equipment training, and new policy/process training.
  • Provides training for selected caregiving teams with patient and public-facing interfaces, and other functional teams involved in safeguarding people, property, assets, and interests.
  • Uses advanced knowledge of weapons (firearms, batons, handcuffs, and CEW/Taser) to assist in analysis, design, development, and implementation of programs equipping public safety officers for duty.
  • Designs, develops, and implements public safety-related training programs across various platforms (in-person, virtual, computer-based) such as active shooter, verbal de-escalation, and workplace violence mitigation.
  • Creates and distributes training materials (manuals, job aids, checklists, response cards, web-based instruction) to ensure consistent and repeatable service delivery by a proficient public safety team.
  • Delivers training on use of materials within a specified region, covering topics like customer service, post procedures, report writing, patrolling, managing aggressive behavior, policy application, emergency response, and evidence handling.
  • Develops leader-level training on organizational effectiveness, risk-based staffing, incident reporting, performance management, technology integration, and leadership.
  • Collaborates with the training team and manager to refine curriculum and modality readiness (web, in-person, self-paced computer-based learning).
  • Analyzes risk assessments, incident reports, investigations, and site visits to identify high-payoff training opportunities for local and system-wide needs.
  • Liaises with other functional areas to recommend joint ventures improving security.
  • Assists in designing and coordinating major training events such as active-shooter and security-related emergency response drills.
  • Solicits and analyzes feedback to enhance training effectiveness through focus groups and subject matter experts.
  • Recommends resource allocation and helps craft policies, procedures, and programs to improve department performance.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state security and risk regulations (DNV, CMS, HIPAA) and workplace violence prevention laws.
  • Represents Security and Public Safety in various situations, fostering a culture of execution, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Delivers and refines a best-in-class Workplace Violence Prevention (WPV) Training Program for ~70,000 employees, focusing on prevention, managing aggressive behavior, and mitigating risk factors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience as an Instructor/Trainer in private sector security, public safety, law enforcement, or the military, with at least 1 year in designing content/curriculum and delivering training to adult learners.

  • Experience designing content/curriculum and delivering effective training to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to develop viable training plans optimizing limited resources.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with multiple functional areas and business unit leaders.
  • Flexibility to work off-shifts, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Responsible for locations within a specific geographic region.
  • Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday.
  • Must lift up to 35 lbs occasionally and push/pull with 35 lbs of force.
  • Exposure to outdoor temperatures ranging from -10 to 90 degrees due to seasonal changes.
  • Operates all necessary equipment to perform the job.
