About the role
The School Climate Safety and Support Specialist position at Chippens Hill Middle School is under the direction of the Director of Safety and Security. This role involves ensuring the safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors, enforcing school policies, and addressing student behavioral issues.
Responsibilities
- Patrol and monitor buildings to ensure safety and security
- Maintain a visible presence to deter incidents and detect situations requiring assistance
- Identify and address student behavioral issues through training and appropriate techniques
- Provide assistance to visitors and direct them as needed
- Prevent unauthorized access and enforce access control measures
- Guide, escort, or control individuals suspected of illegal or prohibited activity
- Respond to calls for assistance and emergency situations
- Use de-escalation and behavioral management techniques to resolve issues
- Ensure proper identification badges are displayed by staff and visitors
- Aid in handling emergency or disruptive situations with staff and first responders
- Work with School Resource Officers and school staff to promote student responsibility
- Investigate and document incidents and accidents
- Participate in monthly crisis drills and assist building administrators
- Operate and monitor CCTV systems to identify issues and investigate incidents
- Report conditions or practices interfering with safety to building administrators and supervisors
- Interact positively with staff, students, and parents
- Assist in restraining, moving, or providing emergency weight-bearing assistance of students and staff
- Report suspected child abuse to appropriate authorities
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Valid CT Security Officer ID Card
- 5 years related experience
- Previous law enforcement, corrections, or military background preferred

- Regular sitting, standing, walking, reading, hearing, speaking, reaching, stretching, crouching, kneeling, climbing, and stooping
- Frequent interruptions by staff, students, visitors, and/or telephone
- Occasional requirement to walk more than 2 miles per day
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds
- On-call availability for emergencies
