About the role
DFPI is recruiting for one permanent, full-time Information Technology Specialist I position within the Information Technology Services Division's Security Unit, located in the Sacramento office. This recruitment may fill subsequent vacancies within the next 180 days.
Under the general direction of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO, IT Manager I), the Security Operations Specialist will ensure DFPI IT systems are protected from threats, monitor systems, respond to alerts, perform investigations and analysis, and implement solutions to improve the department's security posture. The specialist will assist the CISO and Operations Manager in maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, including California Civil Code, the State Administrative Manual (SAM), the Statewide Information Management Manual (SIMM), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Responsibilities
- Protect DFPI IT systems from threats.
- Monitor systems and respond to security alerts.
- Perform investigations and analysis of security incidents.
- Implement solutions to improve the department's security posture.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, including California Civil Code, SAM, SIMM, and NIST.
Qualifications
- Two years as an Information Technology Associate;
- OR four years of general information technology experience performing technical and/or analytical tasks for computer systems or services in any of the six domains or emerging information technology fields;
- OR 120 semester units (or 180 quarter units) from an accredited college or university, including at least 15 semester units (or 22.5 quarter units) of information technology or closely related coursework;
- OR any equivalent combination of experience and education.
Pay
- Range A: $6,513.00 - $8,729.00 per month
- Range B: $7,163.00 - $9,599.00 per month
- Range C: $7,864.00 - $10,537.00 per month
New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. Note: Effective July 1, 2025, the salary ranges do not reflect a 3 percent reduction in pay for SEIU bargaining units in exchange for 5 hours of Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) leave credits per month.
