Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff, and hospital property.
  • Conduct routine patrols of hospital buildings, grounds, and off-site facilities to identify safety hazards, security risks, and unsecured areas.
  • Maintain accurate incident logs and complete reports in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Respond to emergencies, security incidents, and requests for assistance in a timely and professional manner.
  • Investigate thefts, suspicious activity, property loss, and other incidents; document findings through detailed written reports.
  • Assist motorists with vehicle lockouts and jump-starts.
  • Support specialized assignments such as Bike Patrol or Community Liaison Officer duties.
  • Work across multiple hospital campuses and off-site facilities, adapting to different assignments and operational needs.
  • Cross-train in various security posts and remain flexible to work alternate shifts and locations as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • 1–3 years of security or related experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license from state of residence required.
  • Must pass an initial and annual criminal background check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications (training provided): CPR/AED/First Aid, Narcan (Naloxone), AVADE/HDTS De-Escalation, International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification (within 90 days of hire).
  • Ability to obtain licensure as a Special State Police Officer under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 22C, Section 63 preferred.

  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate reports and routine correspondence.
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.

  • Working Conditions: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and/or walk for at least 8 hours, stand and/or walk to emergencies throughout the hospital and adjoining campuses, verbally and physically manage emergency situations upon arrival, requires strong vision and hearing to effectively respond to routine and emergency situations, must be able to use appropriate physical force to overcome, restrain, or arrest individuals when necessary, must successfully complete the following functional assessment within the first 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.
