About the role
Kamehameha Schools Maui is seeking motivated and committed Security Officers to join our campus 'ohana. Ideal candidates are able to:
- Conduct and support investigations with professionalism, accuracy, and discretion
- Think on their feet and use strong judgment to respond to evolving situations
- Manage large crowds and campus events calmly, effectively, and safely
- Understand and execute safety plans and emergency procedures
- Write clear, accurate, and thorough incident reports
- Apply effective de-escalation skills to resolve conflicts safely
- Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, faculty, students, families, and community members
- Bring experience in dispatching, radio communication, and CCTV monitoring (preferred)
Responsibilities
Provides security services for students, faculty, staff, visitors and facilities for Kamehameha Schools. These services include but are not limited to:
- Maintain a safe and secure environment by adhering strictly to security protocols and procedures
- Maintain the safety of facilities, property, and individuals on campus through regular vehicle and foot patrols, remaining alert to unusual conditions or unauthorized personnel
- Monitor CCTV cameras, consistently ensuring a vigilant stance toward potential risks or incidents
- Identify potential safety and/or criminal problems and safety hazards and promptly report and monitor to minimize risk
- Oversee traffic flow, parking regulations, and crowd control at both regular school events and special functions on and off-campus, ensuring safety and order
- Respond promptly to emergencies, such as workplace violence, intrusions, violence, natural disasters, fires, assaults, or other crisis situations
- Pursue, apprehend, and detain individuals within jurisdictional limits, using de-escalation techniques and defensive training to manage situations
- Comply with and enforce entry restrictions for unauthorized persons or vehicles, manage visitor and delivery access, and keep detailed records of campus entries and exits
- Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with KS security standards
- Investigate and document traffic, on-campus criminal, and non-criminal incidents, providing thorough written reports to assist in further actions and ensure transparency in all security activities
Requirements
- High School Diploma/Equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience
- Valid Hawaii Driver's license and current driving abstract
- Current DCCA Guard Employee License or ability to obtain certification within 60 days from date of hire
- Current standard First Aid, CPR and AED certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months from date of hire
- Ability to work independently and flexibility to accommodate a rotational schedule, including 24/7 availability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills, allowing effective interaction with KS staff, students, parents, and the public
- Proficiency in computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and email, and ability to learn, operate, and monitor CCTV systems for recording and review purposes
- Competence in typing and computer use for detailed incident reporting
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a security, police, or emergency response role
- Security experience within a K-12 school environment
- Knowledge of security-related software and applications customarily used in the field
- Specialized training in Crisis Intervention, drone operation, defensive tactics, or similar programs
