Security Officer, Research
About the role
The Seattle Children's Research Division is seeking a Security Officer I or II. The Security Officer II is responsible for responding to all safety concerns, security incidents, and service requests at facilities owned or occupied by Seattle Children's, while the Security Officer I provides initial safety and security at facilities staffed by the Seattle Children's Security Department.
Responsibilities
- Respond to fire emergencies, hazardous spills, disaster response, medical emergencies, safety support, missing child, active shooter, bomb threats, individuals under distress or escalated, and unauthorized persons on Seattle Children's property or buildings occupied by Seattle Children's workforce members with intentions to commit crimes such as vandalism, theft, and assault.
- Provide a physical presence at all public entrances and lobby areas to deter, detect, prevent, respond, and document concerns or incidents that risk the safety and well-being of patients, families, visitors, workforce members, and property.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field or a combination of 3 years' experience in Security Services or related field.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire.
- CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certification within 90 days of hire (Annual Requirement).
- Completion of NCI Autism Training within 12 months of hire.
- Completion of Seattle Children's Safe Firearms Training within 12 months of hire.
- Completion of Car Seat Safety Training within 12 months of hire if required for position/role.
- Score of 80% or above on Seattle Children's Security Competency Exam in assigned area of the Security Department (Service Call, Emergency Department, Entrance, Surge, and Research) within 12 months.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- 2 years of experience in Customer Service or Security Services or customer service.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire.
- CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certification within 90 days of hire (Annual Requirement).
- Completion of NCI Autism Training within 12 months of hire.
- Completion of Seattle Children’s Safe Firearms Training within 12 months of hire.
Skills
Knowledge of emergency response procedures, non-violent crisis intervention methods, and ability to utilize appropriate protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, families, visitors, workforce members, and property.

Pay
Compensation ranges from $21.64 - $32.45 per hour for Security Officer I and $21.64 - $37.16 per hour for Security Officer II. Salary information is based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year).
