Job Description

The security officer provides security services to ensure order and safety of patients, visitors and hospital personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts for visitors, employees, and students upon request.
    • Patrols all areas of the hospital internally and externally on foot, bicycle, and/or vehicle 24 hours a day in all weather conditions.
      • (Only security officers who meet the driver’s license standards for operating an Orlando Health owned vehicle listed in the licensure/certifications section of this job description will be permitted to perform motor vehicle patrols.)
    • Provides key assists to all areas of the hospital, including sensitive areas to authorized personnel.
      • Detects suspicious activities within the campus and handles the situations appropriately.
        • Reports criminal activity to supervisor and law enforcement, as appropriate.
          • Investigates accident scenes, searches for and preserves evidence; investigates and interviews witnesses; makes oral and written reports; responds to varying situations with tact and diplomacy and deals with stressful, hostile or irrational person(s), whether due to physical or mental disability, drugs, or socio-economic differences or other factors and recommends legal action if needed.
            • Aids medical staff with the enforcement of Baker Act (F.S. 394.463) and Marchman Act (F.S. 397.675-397.6775) patients with the use of approved medical restraints as requested by physicians under Florida Statutes.
              • Works with law enforcement/correction officers dealing with patient/prisoner intake and status during the duration of their stay in the hospital.
                • In addition officers will assist the Patient Care Coordinator with securing the status of non-publicity/high risk patients.
                  • Reports all safety and security violations throughout the campus.
                    • Responds to all inbound and outbound helicopter flights by ensuring the safety of the helipad and assist flight crew in handling and transporting of patient(s) as needed.
                      • Uses and understands the operation of walk-through and hand held metal detectors.
                        • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
                          • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
