Security Officer - Per Diem - Night

The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and well-being of patients, team members, physicians, visitors, students and Medical Center property, including continuous surveillance, incident reporting, and delivery of quality guest services.

Responsibilities

• Make continuous patrols throughout the Medical Center on foot or in a vehicle to observe and correct violations and detrimental conditions related to security and safety.
• Act as a visible deterrent to crime and prohibited activities.
• Respond to calls and codes for security assistance, including emergent and non-emergent situations.
• Provide continuous coverage of the Medical Center, controlling access and assisting patients and visitors as necessary.
• Challenge unauthorized persons professionally, issue appropriate passes, and enforce Medical Center policies and procedures.
• Maintain and control access to all facilities owned or operated by Hackensack Meridian Health.
• Expedite and ensure safe flow of traffic through Medical Center parking lots while enforcing parking regulations.
• Conduct preliminary and/or detailed investigations of unusual occurrences, including interviewing witnesses and collecting accurate information.
• Respond to fire drills and perform fire watches; facilitate fire department inspections.
• Provide escorts to team members and visitor vehicles as requested.
• Report for duty in a clean Medical Center-issued uniform with photo identification badge and security breast badge.
• Make continuous inspections of outer buildings, grounds, and parking lots; work with facilities to detect fire and life safety hazards.
• Inspect packages leaving the Medical Center when necessary and according to policy.
• Prepare and submit computerized security incident reports before the end of shift and a daily activity log at the completion of the tour of duty.
• Maintain all departmental security equipment in good operating condition and report damage immediately.
• Keep Security Leaders informed of all matters pertinent to safety and security conditions.
• Abide by all Medical Center Code of Conduct regulations, departmental procedures, and policies including parking regulations.
• Complete all in-service training, lectures, and programs as assigned and attend all mandatory meetings.
• Work in all areas of the Medical Center, including parking lots, grounds, and outer buildings as requested, subject to all weather conditions.
• Perform duties as assigned by Security leadership and execute the physical security component of the emergency management plan during emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills, which may include Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Preferred

• 2 years of college credits.
• Previous experience as a Security Officer or Law Enforcement experience.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Full scale State, County, Federal, and License Check will be conducted every other year.

Pay

Minimum rate of $20.68 per hour. The posted rate is a good faith estimate of the minimum base pay in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of the market-competitive total rewards package. The base compensation may vary based on labor market data, experience, education, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Some positions may be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions, and shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend shifts.
