Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Part-time/Weekend Safety Support Professional to join our Safety and Security Team. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for our clients and staff across multiple facilities.

About the role

As a key team member, you will provide first-line response to escalated situations, proactively identify security concerns, and support the well-being of clients enrolled in outpatient services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in safety and security, particularly within healthcare or mental health settings, and be adept at handling high-pressure situations. A commitment to trauma-informed care, the ability to assess and respond to diverse scenarios, and strong rapport-building skills are essential for success in this role.

Schedule

This part-time position averages 26 hours per week and is fully onsite/in-person at the Potomac facility. The schedule includes:

  • Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Monday: 8:00 AM–6:00 PM

Pay

The starting wage is based on experience and company equity, ranging from $19.29 to $28.25 per hour, paid bi-weekly. Shift differential pay applies as follows:

  • Day Weekend (Sat, Sun, 7 AM–3 PM): $1.50/hour
  • Swing Weekday (Mon–Thurs, 3 PM–11 PM): $1.50/hour
  • Swing Weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun, 3 PM–11 PM): $2.75/hour
  • Overnight (11 PM–7 AM): Shift differential applies (rate not specified)

Responsibilities

  • Protect AMHR staff, clients, and property by maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Identify safety or security concerns, investigate disturbances, and address them accordingly.
  • Report safety concerns, security breaches, and unusual circumstances verbally and in writing.
  • Engage with clients and staff to support healthy and therapeutic interactions, manage interpersonal conflict, and prevent escalation.
  • Provide first-line response to escalated clients and incidents, including verbal de-escalation and physical management techniques.
  • Transport or support the transportation of escalated clients or clients in crisis.
  • Act lawfully in direct defense of life or property; detain criminals and evict violators.
  • Monitor and control access at building entrances, including patrolling buildings and perimeter.
  • Monitor alarm systems or video cameras and operate detecting/emergency equipment if applicable.
  • Unlock and secure buildings as directed.
  • Greet all guests, clients, and employees in a cheerful and welcoming manner.
  • Participate in and help facilitate safety drills across facilities.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings as requested.
  • Provide excellent customer service, adhering to AMHR values and philosophy of care.
  • Provide operational and procedural support to ensure daily operations align with established procedures.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment in all interactions.
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages respect for diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Promote a safety-oriented culture.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferred).
  • 1–3 years of experience in a security/safety role (required).
  • Experience in behavioral health, safety/security, law enforcement, or military (preferred).
  • Knowledge of safety awareness practices, protocols, and human behavior/de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, co-workers, agencies, and the community.
  • Ability to manage high-stress and crisis situations through de-escalation and/or physical management training.
  • Flexibility to carry out diverse job duties efficiently.
  • Ability to train staff in safety practices and de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong situational awareness and ability to recognize potential threats.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to clients, staff, and projects.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. as requested.

Qualifications

Required vaccinations and testing:

  • Annual influenza (flu) vaccination (medical or religious exemptions may be requested).
  • Negative TB test result prior to the first day of hire.
