About the role
The National WWII Museum is currently seeking a Security Officer for the Overnight Shift. Reporting to the Director of Security and under the direct supervision of shift supervisors, the Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, and volunteers as well as property.
Responsibilities
- Patrol premises regularly to maintain order and establish a visible presence.
- Perform security checks of doors, windows, gates, and fences.
- Monitor surveillance systems, alarms, and access control systems.
- Control access to buildings and restricted areas; verifies identification of staff and visitors.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents including fire alarms, medical situations, or security threats.
- Report and document incidents accurately using daily activity reports and incident reports.
- Enforce organizational rules, regulations, and procedures consistently.
- Assist in emergency evacuation procedures and provides first response as needed.
- Conduct security inspections of buildings, vehicles, equipment, and visitor bags.
- Provide escort services for staff, contractors, or visitors when requested.
- Communicate effectively with law enforcement, emergency services, and internal teams as required; communicates via security equipment according to department protocols.
- Participate in training and ongoing professional development.
- Complete all other reasonable tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- Prior experience in a security, military, or law enforcement role is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and experience with security equipment and surveillance systems is required.
- CPR / First Aid certification is a plus.
- Strong observation and problem-solving skills are essential.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
- Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations is crucial.
- Physically fit and capable of standing or patrolling for extended periods is important.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed is required.
- A current and valid driver’s license is required.
