Responsibilities
- Patrols designated HonorHealth properties, screens visitors, and performs other activities related to the safety and security of staff, patients, and visitors.
- Protects HonorHealth property against theft, fire, vandalism, or other illegal, unsafe, or unauthorized activities.
- Conveys information clearly and accurately, while maintaining a keen awareness of safety protocols and security measures to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
- Ensures a safe and secure hospital campus by:
- Checking for suspicious activity or safety/fire hazards.
- Investigating and/or reporting hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances to the appropriate leadership personnel.
- Checking doors and windows of buildings to ensure they are tightly closed and locked; noting in written log any unlocked doors/windows; submitting information to supervisor and/or manager.
- Escorting people/property to desired destination when monies, documents or safety of property or persons are a concern.
- Responding to alarms and dispatched calls and taking appropriate actions.
- Unlocking buildings/doors after checking identification and compliance with hospital policies.
- Enforcing organizational policies (i.e., parking, smoking, badge compliance).
- Assisting in emergency situations by acting as first responder to disturbances/emergencies such as infant abduction alarms, fire alarms, panic alarms, intruder alarms, restraint calls anywhere in hospital or on hospital grounds.
- Making decisions to maintain order, safety, and protect personnel and property in the event of emergencies, which may require rapid stair climbing, running/sprinting, moving of heavy equipment and other associated tasks.
- Subduing resisting, aggressive, combative, and distressed individuals when ordered by proper medical authority and in compliance with hospital policy/procedure, using appropriate restraint equipment to prevent injury to individual or others.
- Assisting law enforcement officers and security leadership with protection details, crowd control, and surveillance at large public events.
- Assisting in providing security for mass casualty events including setting up Decon equipment.
- Investigating and/or documenting incidents.
- Completing required training and annual in-services.
- Participating in security department training and continuing education programs including, but not limited to Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Techniques, Self Defense Tactics & Techniques leading to certification in the use of specialized equipment.
- Representing HonorHealth as a brand ambassador for the company.
- Greeting patients/visitors/vendors/staff with a smile.
- Assisting any persons on campus grounds needing direction or campus information.
- Assisting other departments with helping guests while they are otherwise detained.
- Collaborating with community partners.
- Associate's Degree or equivalent from a recognized college or trade school - Preferred
- High School Diploma or GED - Required
- 1 year of successful experience in a field related to law enforcement or security in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred but not required.
- Driver License - Required
- Non Clinical\IAHSS - Certification As A Security Officer - Preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association within in 2 months of hire - Required
- Taser certification within 90 days of hire by HonorHealth Public Safety/Certified Taser Instructor 90 Days - Required
