Position Summary
A Security Ambassador for Barbier Security Group provides a wide variety of essential services to the Uptown Downtown Oakland Community Benefit Districts. As a Security Ambassador, your duties will be varied but you will demonstrate interpersonal skills that contribute to delivering an exceptional client and community experience.
Position Description
- Patrol on foot and bike to maintain a safe and welcoming environment in the downtown area.
- Offer assistance, information, and directions to downtown workers, residents, and visitors.
- Perform regular patrols of assigned areas, including multi-level buildings and outdoor spaces.
- Respond swiftly to emergencies or incidents, including sprinting short distances if necessary.
- Utilize manual dexterity to operate security equipment such as radios, keys, and locks efficiently.
- Lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds to assist with security tasks or emergencies.
- Secure heavy items or assist with moving necessary supplies as part of the role.
- Maintain situational awareness by utilizing strong vision and hearing abilities to monitor surroundings, identify potential security threats, and detect alarms or sounds of distress.
- De-escalate stressful or potentially volatile situations with professionalism, patience, and effective communication skills.
- Maintain prolonged alertness throughout long shifts, ensuring the safety and security of the premises.
- Aid in evacuations or other emergency responses, utilizing physical stamina and agility to support individuals in need.
- Keep accurate and detailed activity logs, documenting all patrols, incidents, and observations during the shift.
- Prepare comprehensive reports for any incidents ensuring records are clear and precise for review.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Wear a duty belt and ballistic vest throughout the shift.
- Possess a current California Guard Card License.
- Valid Driver's License and a clean driving record for 3 years is required.
- Reliable transportation is necessary.
- Proficient in basic computer and smartphone usage.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English to create accurate reports; additional language skills are a plus.
- Strong listening skills, patience, and compassion, particularly when interacting with community members experiencing emotional or psychological challenges.
- Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, think critically, de-escalate conflicts, and communicate effectively.
- Maintain a positive, professional demeanor in adherence to all laws, regulations, company policies, and confidentiality standards.
- Possess a clear understanding of emergency response procedures and protocols.
- At least one year of experience in security, mobile patrol, or event staff roles.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
Physical Requirements
- Stand, Walk or Sit for Extended Periods: Ability to sit while driving a vehicle, stand or walk for long periods, often for several hours at a time, including traversing outdoor areas with uneven surfaces, without significant physical strain.
- Climb Stairs: Regularly climb stairs and navigate multi-level buildings to perform patrols and check all areas.
- Lift and Carry: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to move or secure equipment, and assist with other duties as necessary.
- Physical Endurance: Ability to withstand various weather conditions during outdoor patrols, including hot, cold, rainy, or windy weather.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle and operate security equipment, such as radios, keys, and locks efficiently.
- Run or Move Quickly: Ability to sprint short distances if needed to respond quickly to emergencies or incidents.
- Physical Stamina: Capable of working long hours while remaining alert and focused throughout the shift.
- Kneeling and Bending: Ability to kneel, crouch, and bend to check low-level areas, secure entrances, or assist in emergencies.
- Vision and Hearing: Strong vision and hearing to observe surroundings, monitor security systems, and detect alarms or sounds of distress.
