About the Role
Responsible for patrolling, protecting, and securing all Harris Health System's buildings and grounds, promoting safety and security at all locations. Responds to all crisis intervention team activations, prevents patient elopements, and assists medical staff with restraint of patients as requested. Serves as assigned Milieu Officer in designated hospital areas. Work requires a continuously high level of awareness in the milieu in order to react promptly and effectively to emergencies, and visual acuity in order to detect suspicious activities. Work requires the ability to physically intervene in medical and behavioral emergencies and may involve exposure to the risk of physical injury by assaultive patients.
Responsibilities
- Patrol, protect, and secure all Harris Health System's buildings and grounds.
- Promote safety and security at all Harris Health locations.
- Respond to all crisis intervention team activations.
- Prevent patient elopements.
- Assist medical staff with restraint of patients as requested.
- Serve as assigned Milieu Officer in designated hospital areas.
- Supervise shift activities in the absence of the security supervisor.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) Basic Peace Officer Certification or TPSB (Texas Private Security Bureau) Level III Certification required at point of hire.
- CPR training within six months of employment.
- IAHSS Basic Security Officer Training Program within six months of employment.
- Aggression Management training within six months of employment.
- Must be registered by the Texas Private Security Bureau within 90 days of employment.
- TPSB Level IV Certification preferred.
- Three (3) years work experience in security, criminal justice, military, or healthcare, or a combination of the above.
- Five (5) years healthcare security or behavioral health experience preferred.
- Above average verbal communication skills (heavy public contact).
- Proficiency in writing and reports.
- P.C. Typing: 20-29 wpm, MS Word.
- Must be able to understand and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency in the use of computers is required.
- E-1 availability during disaster situations.
