Security Officer III

About the role

Full-Time Night Shift Security Officer with Shift Differential for week days, weekends and holidays to protect hospital-controlled properties and equipment and provide a safe and secure environment for Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute (NVMHI). This position patrols the facilities grounds and buildings ensuring the areas are secure and that safety issues are addressed. Agency: Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services; Location: Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute. State Role Title: 69113.

Responsibilities

• Patrol facilities grounds and buildings ensuring areas are secure and safety issues are addressed
• Support activities of the facilities such as responding to behavioral emergencies
• Escort individuals we serve on Special Hospitalizations
• Patrol nursing unit every 15 minutes
• Process electronic fingerprinting
• Ensure equipment temperatures are functioning properly
• Respond to alarms
• Support emergency management programs
• Transport individuals
• Provide support to the switchboard/reception
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Experience in a security/safety position required
• Current state motor vehicle operator's license required
• Experience with MS Office
• High school graduate or equivalent
• Knowledge of Virginia state codes, laws, and regulations
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Ability to write reports
• Ability to use Microsoft products
• Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Must be able to work mandatory overtime as needed

Qualifications

• Experience with diverse populations or groups, including mental health and intellectual disabilities
• Prior law enforcement experience
• Experience in Report Writing

Schedule

Night shift hours: 11:30 p.m. – 8 a.m.

Pay

Hiring range: $49,379 – $68,142 (Pay Band 3)
