C Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM

Characteristics of Work

The Security Department's primary purpose is to provide general security and assure a safe environment for residents, employees, and facility visitors. It is the policy of the Specialized Treatment Facility to maintain a safe and secure environment that facilitates the growth and development of residents. The Environment of Care Manual includes a Safety Management Plan and a Security Management Plan, covering:

  • Safety management
  • Security management
  • Hazardous materials/waste management
  • Emergency management
  • Fire safety
  • Utilities management

Security Officers conduct facility rounds on all shifts, inspecting unoccupied buildings for unlocked doors or windows. They check and document facility grounds and residential buildings, address trespassers or unauthorized persons, and respond to disturbances to ensure the safety of residents, employees, and guests. Security personnel may request assistance from outside law enforcement when necessary.

A log book is maintained by each shift. During weather watches or warnings occurring on holidays, weekends, and after 4:30 PM or before 8:00 AM on weekdays, the Security Department notifies staffed buildings, including residential living units. The Security Department also serves as the switchboard operator, directs calls, fingerprints individuals, and processes badges.

Security officers handle maintenance issues reported after regular hours by notifying appropriate personnel. They also receive monies from parents and guardians for resident accounts and distribute staff payroll checks. All Security staff enter into a surety bond.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience
  • Certifications in MANDT, CPR, and first aid (as required by STF)
  • Valid driver’s license and liability insurance to operate a state vehicle

Required Documentation

An original high school diploma, GED equivalent, or official college transcript is required.
