Security Officer I - Plant Scherer (Pre-Hire Testing Required)
About the Role
The Security Officer position is responsible for protecting Georgia Power employees, contractors, visitors, and property. Enforce and administer established rules, procedures, and appropriate laws. Respond to alarms and security requests for security services. Process personnel for access authorization to Plant McDonough in accordance with established procedures. Interpret procedures and regulations and make decisions regarding plant access control.
Responsibilities

- Administer basic first aid/CPR
- Operate electronic security systems
- Direct and control traffic
- Handle crisis situations, threat alerts, and communications with outside agencies

- Prioritize and perform work with minimal supervision
- Maintain strict confidentiality
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Valid Georgia driver’s license
- Must be 21 years of age
- Experience in military, law enforcement, corrections, or armed security preferred
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system desired
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Fluency in Spanish a plus
- Must meet all local, State, and Federal requirements for firearm issuance and private security
- Must obtain an Armed Security Officer License issued by the State Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies
- Must pass a background check, psychological test, physical exam, and drug test
- Must qualify for firearm use and re-qualify with semiautomatic pistol and pump action shotgun at least twice annually (day and night firing qualifications) with a minimum passing score of 80%
- Must be sprayed with O.C. Pepper Spray during training
- Must be able to work rotating shifts: days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Must be able and willing to work in severe weather conditions
- Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience and a clean driving record (no revocations in the last 36 months, no major violations in the last 12 months)
- Must consent to continuous monitoring of Motor Vehicle Record

- Hear a forced whisper at 5 feet
Environmental and Other Tolerances
- Tolerate exposure to non-lethal substances (e.g., OC spray, tear gas)
- Tolerate exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity or extremes
- Tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, gases, and chemicals
Emergency Physical Demands
- Run 100 yards with standard issue gear within 90 seconds
- Climb 35 feet of stairs with standard issue gear within 60 seconds
- Lift 35 pounds and carry 50 yards with standard issue gear within 90 seconds
- Maneuver through a 24-inch opening/passage with standard issue gear
Schedule
- Starts as a night position (6 PM to 6 AM)
- May require rotating days and shifts as needed
- Shifts: 6 AM to 6 PM or 6 PM to 6 AM, including holidays and weekends
