Security Officer I

Part-time, Weekend Package (Saturday/Sunday) with every 5th weekend off. Benefits eligible.

About the role

The Security Officer I / Safety Tech is responsible for providing services that create a safe and secure environment for assigned departments. This role undertakes activities to identify, deter, abate, or correct routine and emergent situations within the hospital's scope of responsibility. Assists with individual needs, maintains a therapeutic and safe environment, observes and reports patient behavior, and provides basic care while overseeing patient safety and security under medical team supervision. Performs basic assessments, makes trained observations, and reports to the health team.

Responsibilities

• De-escalate behaviorally escalated patients.
• Provide appropriate interventions, including physical interventions, in violent situations.
• Respond to Security Assistance Needed and Behavioral Health Emergencies by screening patients prior to admission.
• Provide a safe environment for patients and assigned departments, including secure units, emergency departments, and/or in-patient medical units.
• Screen visitors for unauthorized and unsafe items before entry into behavioral health areas, patient rooms, and the facility.
• Provide personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to patients and visitors.
• Evaluate and assess patients' current condition and mental state frequently, elevating concerns to nursing staff as needed. Includes 15/60-minute patient rounding.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• Post-secondary education in counseling, therapy, or psychology preferred.
• 1-3 years of experience working in a related field preferred.
