Security Officer I

0.9 FTE, 2:00pm–2:00am shift in the Safety & Security department.

Overview

As a Security Officer at UnityPoint Health, you’ll help create a safe, welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and team members. You’ll keep a watchful eye on our facilities, respond to safety concerns, and help prevent theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access. This role is about more than security—it’s about people. You’ll help patients and families feel safe, support our team members, and make a meaningful difference in the moments that matter.

Responsibilities

• Monitors the safety and security of the hospital through documented inspection tours and customer-focused interactions.
• Patrols hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders.
• Monitors the conduct of visitors on hospital premises and appropriately questions/escorts unauthorized persons as needed.
• Performs investigations and reports safety and security violations as needed.
• Monitors, manages, and responds to hospital security systems such as cameras, panic alarms, access control systems, infant abduction systems, and wandering systems.
• De-escalates high-tension situations with professional verbal de-escalation, physical de-escalation, and security tools when required to keep our patients, team members, and community safe.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Military, law enforcement, or medical background is preferred.
• Customer service or public relations experience is preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License.
