The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and well-being of patients, team members, physicians, visitors, students, and Medical Center property through continuous surveillance, incident reporting, and guest services.
Responsibilities
- Make continuous patrols throughout the Medical Center on foot or in a vehicle to observe and correct security and safety violations.
- Act as a visible deterrent to crime and prohibited activities.
- Respond to calls and codes for security assistance, including emergent and non-emergent situations.
- Provide continuous coverage of the Medical Center, controlling access and assisting patients and visitors.
- Challenge unauthorized persons professionally, issue passes, and enforce Medical Center policies.
- Maintain and control access to all Hackensack Meridian Health facilities.
- Expedite safe traffic flow in Medical Center parking lots and enforce parking regulations.
- Conduct preliminary or detailed investigations of unusual occurrences, including interviewing witnesses and collecting information.
- Respond to fire drills and perform fire watches; facilitate fire department inspections.
- Provide escorts to team members and visitors as requested.
- Report for duty in a clean uniform with photo identification badge and security breast badge.
- Inspect outer buildings, grounds, and parking lots; work with facilities to detect fire and life safety hazards.
- Inspect packages leaving the Medical Center when required by policy.
- Prepare and submit computerized security incident reports before the end of shift and daily activity logs at tour completion.
- Maintain all departmental security equipment and report damage immediately.
- Keep Security Leaders informed of safety and security conditions.
- Abide by Medical Center Code of Conduct, departmental policies, and parking regulations.
- Complete all in-service training, lectures, and mandatory meetings.
- Work in all areas of the Medical Center, including parking lots, grounds, and outer buildings, in all weather conditions.
- Perform duties as assigned by Security leadership and execute the physical security component of the emergency management plan during emergencies.
- Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Preferred
- 2 years of college credits.
- Previous experience as a Security Officer or in Law Enforcement.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid driver’s license.
- Full scale State, County, Federal, and License Check conducted every other year.
Pay
Minimum rate of $20.68 per hour. Compensation may vary based on experience, education, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Eligible for shift differentials, performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate.
