Security Officer - Full Time - Day

This role is responsible for the safety and well-being of patients, team members, physicians, visitors, students, and Medical Center property through continuous surveillance, incident reporting, and enforcement of security policies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct continuous patrols throughout the Medical Center to observe and address security and safety violations, either on foot or in a vehicle, acting as a visible deterrent to crime and prohibited activities.
• Respond to calls and codes for security assistance, taking proper action in both emergent and non-emergent situations, including all Medical Center Codes.
• Provide continuous coverage of the Medical Center, controlling access, assisting patients and visitors, and challenging unauthorized persons in a professional and courteous manner.
• Maintain and control access to all facilities owned, operated, or leased by Hackensack Meridian Health, ensuring safe traffic flow and enforcing parking regulations.
• Conduct preliminary and/or detailed investigations of security-related incidents, including interviewing witnesses and collecting accurate information.
• Respond to fire drills, perform fire watches, and facilitate fire department inspections.
• Provide escorts to team members and visitor vehicles as requested.
• Report for duty in a clean and complete Medical Center-issued uniform, including photo identification and security officer breast badge.
• Inspect outer buildings, grounds, and parking lots, working with facilities to detect fire and life safety hazards.
• Inspect packages leaving the Medical Center according to policy.
• Prepare and submit computerized security incident reports before the end of each shift, along with a daily activity log.
• Maintain all departmental security equipment in good operating condition and report damage immediately to the Security Leader.
• Keep Security Leaders informed of all matters pertinent to safety and security conditions.
• Adhere to all Medical Center Code of Conduct regulations, departmental procedures, and parking regulations.
• Complete all assigned in-service training, lectures, and programs, and attend mandatory meetings.
• Work in all weather conditions and across all areas of the Medical Center, including parking lots, grounds, and outer buildings.
• Perform duties as assigned by Security leadership and execute the physical security component of the emergency management plan during emergencies.
• Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• 2 years of college credits.
• Previous experience as a Security Officer or in Law Enforcement.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Full-scale State, County, Federal, and License Check conducted every other year.

Pay

Minimum starting rate of $21.78 per hour. The posted rate is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding.
