Security Officer Full Time

Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), has been a leader in psychiatric treatment since 1828. About the role

The Security Officer will maintain coverage for the Public Safety Department at Western State Hospital (WSH) and the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA).

• Respond and assist unit staff with patients as requested at both WSH and CCCA.
• Conduct walk-throughs on units and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
• Check in and scan all visitors and returning patients using walk-through metal detectors and hand wands in the front lobby and sally port.
• Respond to emergencies such as fires, disasters, duress alarms, and other incidents, providing assistance as needed.
• Transport combative, dangerous, or public safety patients to and from other state facilities, court hearings, and appointments.
• Patrol hospital property, monitor parking and traffic, and conduct vehicle accident investigations as required.
• Prepare and submit special reports and Public Safety logs in a timely manner, entering data into the Public Safety log database.
• Act as an active team player at all times.

Requirements

• Valid Virginia Driver’s License.
• Experience in Law Enforcement, Public Safety, or related fields involving public interaction.
• High school graduate or equivalent.

Pay

Hiring range: $44,440 to $55,000.
