Security Officer
About the role
The Whitney believes in a comprehensive approach to security, safeguarding both physical assets and the safety and dignity of its visitors, staff, and other audiences. Security Officers are responsible for enforcing the Museum's rules of conduct, patrolling galleries and lobbies, ensuring adherence to security protocols, and managing visitor flow.
Responsibilities
- Enforce the Museum's rules of conduct for visitors
- Patrol designated areas in galleries or lobbies
- Ensure compliance with security rules to prevent theft, fire, damage, and personal injury
- Prevent disorder and overcrowding
- Maintain awareness of safety conditions
- Monitor and report on CCTV camera footage
- Operate elevators as needed
- Inspect packages for visitors and staff
- Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Security or designee
Requirements and Qualifications
- Current New York State Security Officer License
- Two years of experience in the security field
- Able to stand for long periods
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Bilingual a plus
- Able to bend, jump, run, and lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to respond to first aid and emergency situations
- Experience maneuvering up and down stairs multiple times per shift
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly rate: $22.64
- Additional $3.00 increase for employees holding the F-89 FLS Director Certificate of Fitness
