About the Role

Functions as a critical liaison to management to assure established hospital-wide health, safety, security, and environmental protection programs are carried out routinely throughout the organization. Provides routine and complex safety and security functions that protect patients, staff, and visitors in a focused and cost-efficient manner. Works closely with others to control emergency, crisis, violent, and/or disruptive behavior situations. Helps minimize loss due to accidents or incidents resulting in lost time, property damage, or business interruptions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a broad array of time-related safety and security tasks at regular intervals, such as facility locking and unlocking, fire watch, observational tours, and parking lot enforcement, as well as other assigned location-oriented tasks.
  • Provides excellent physical protective services to patients, visitors, staff, and business assets, acting as a monitor, courier, or escort as needed.
  • Skillfully controls crisis, emergency, and intervention situations involving violent or disruptive individuals, following established guidelines, policies, or directions.
  • Identifies hazardous conditions and initiates corrective controls to minimize life safety issues, criminal activity, fire risks, or other high-risk situations.
  • Monitors facility and personnel performance to ensure compliance with health, safety, security, and environmental guidelines, providing education or information as needed.
  • Accurately captures and disseminates essential safety and security data for departmental use and regulatory/liability compliance.
  • Reviews information, instructions, and correspondence daily before engaging in work activities, clarifying details as necessary.
  • Documents incidents and completes daily security activity reports with accuracy.
  • Demonstrates intimate knowledge of all facility alarm systems, including components, operational parameters, and basic testing, troubleshooting, programming, and bypassing of faulted zones.
  • Effectively utilizes resources and time management skills in a cost-efficient manner. May participate in specialized projects such as complex surveys, trend identification, surveillance, electronics, locksmithing, and signage.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Acceptable NYS driver’s license required.
  • Current NYS Department of State Security Guard license required.
  • One year of healthcare security experience preferred.
  • Good organizational ability and time management skills.
  • Excellent human relations skills and a strong oral command of the English language.
  • Good computer and writing skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of various building emergency systems.
  • Ability to verbally and physically de-escalate disruptive, violent, or crisis situations.
  • Completion of annual NYS-OMH Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations (PMCS) training.
