About the role
This individual contributor position is responsible for four core functions: site security and safety, first aid, observation of property and equipment for abnormalities, and serving as the primary point of contact for employee and non-employee questions related to site access and security. The role requires maintaining confidentiality and working effectively with staff and third-party individuals. Performance in this role directly supports Valmont’s overall mission.
Responsibilities
- Work schedule: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, with two officers per shift (may adjust based on business needs).
- Greet all persons entering or calling the office building and provide appropriate information.
- Respond to emergency situations, including workplace violence, elevator entrapments, accidents, fires, medical emergencies, crimes in progress, and alarm notifications.
- Assist with emergency procedures and direct public safety officials as needed.
- Provide escorts for associates and guests to and from the facility.
- Patrol the facility to ensure physical security and safety, including campus patrols on bike, foot, or in a vehicle.
- Serve as a source of information for employees and non-employees.
- Demonstrate integrity, excellent judgment, and sensitivity when addressing questions, problems, or situations in alignment with company policy and goals.
- Evaluate and respond to calls for assistance accurately and decisively, adhering to Nebraska State Medical and Department Protocols.
- Assist the Valmont Valley, NE campus as needed.
- Monitor CCTV/security systems, fire systems, and remote access monitoring systems.
- Operate the access control system, including allowing/denying access, creating access cards, generating system reports, and maintaining the access control database.
- Act swiftly and confidently in emergencies to minimize injury or loss of life.
- Observe, question, report, and act on potential improprieties or abnormalities in property and equipment.
- Serve as a company representative for customers and visitors, directing inquiries to the appropriate Valmont contacts.
- Reflect Valmont’s mission and values in attitude and demeanor.
Requirements
- High School diploma and 2+ years of related work/educational experience.
- Knowledge in the following areas: basic law, physical security methods, site access control, confidential information control, theft control and investigation, incident investigation, high-security lock repair/installation, alarm monitoring and systems, safety procedures and policies, fire protection methods and systems, and C-TPAT procedures.
- Valid vehicle operator’s license.
- Knowledge of emergency first aid, rescue, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) methods.
- Professional attitude and demeanor reflecting Valmont’s mission and values.
- Annual training review of the facility’s hazardous waste management program.
- Ability to recognize safe and unsafe operating conditions, including boiler systems, key production equipment, gas storage, and hazardous waste storage.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with associates and guests.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Criminal Justice Degree (Bachelor’s or Associate’s).
- Certifications such as CPP (Certified Protection Professional) or PSO (Physical Security Officer).
- Prior experience in a security role.
- Valid EMT or EMR (state or national) license.
Working Conditions
- Position is based at the Omaha, Nebraska facility.
- Must be able to wear required PPE and complete related safety training.
- Must possess a valid vehicle operator’s license and operate motor vehicles for much of the shift.
- Physical requirements include: reaching with hands and arms; standing, walking, sitting; using hands to finger, handle, or feel; stooping, kneeling, or crouching; talking, hearing, tasting, or smelling.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds; infrequent lifting or moving of items up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Travel to Valley, NE may be required.
