Security Officer

In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, TCRHCC has implemented an Affirmative Action Plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference in Employment Act. About the role

The Security Officer provides vigilant security services and excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff across Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC), including satellite clinics and the Kaibeto Creek Independent Living Center. Responsibilities include responding promptly to alarms, emergencies, and life-threatening incidents with a focus on maintaining safety and security. The role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including overtime, weekends, evenings, and being on-call for emergency callbacks.

Responsibilities

• Attend and complete all TCRHCC mandatory training.
• Obtain certification for Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing Tactics, Defense Baton, Pepper Spray Defense, and De-Escalation within ninety (90) days of employment and maintain certification every two years.
• Participate in all required quarterly and annual training courses, including the Physical Assessment Battery, Active Shooter Response, Emergency Management, Use of Force protocols, and other assigned training.
• Provide a secure environment by performing security duties at fixed posts or while patrolling hospital buildings and grounds. Check for unauthorized persons, security violations, and fire or safety hazards.
• Assist patients and visitors with directions and provide general information about the hospital.
• Report all problems and emergencies to the immediate supervisor and document security incidents with clear, accurate written reports and daily log activities submitted before the end of shift.
• Control evidence, valuables, and lost/found items. Secure, tag, log, and attempt to contact owners of lost and found articles. Maintain a clean, neat, and secure lost and found storage area.
• Respond to and resolve problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances. Handle disruptive individuals using verbal intervention techniques; physical intervention may be required.
• Operate security equipment such as BRIVO, cameras, and alarms.
• Report and investigate security breaches, suspicious activity, or illegal activity to security supervisors or other authorities.
• Perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling patients or equipment.
• Screen all individuals entering the facilities to ensure they have a business purpose. Check ID badges, confirm vendor/contractor authorization, and ensure visitors comply with TCRHCC rules and regulations.
• Escort all unauthorized persons from the hospital campus.
• Provide security escorts to employees, patients, patient family, and visitors with a friendly demeanor.
• Assist with campus parking, screen individuals in visitor lots, and provide support during helicopter landings.
• Participate in all Emergency Preparedness Events and collaborate with law enforcement agencies and other emergency services as needed.
• Conduct security checks on staff with access to sensitive areas and monitor security cameras and alarm systems for unusual activity.
• Participate in regular training to maintain and improve security-related skills.
• Conduct mobile patrols of all TCRHCC residential areas, report suspicious activities, and contact appropriate authorities for criminal activities. Assist with transportation and lifting of deceased bodies.
• Provide relief to security staff for lunch, daily breaks, leave, and act as a backup to ensure proper security staffing.
• Participate in the current fire and disaster plan.
• Conduct minor animal control.
• Ensure proper PPE is worn at all times while on duty and complete donning and doffing tasks safely. Perform routine cleaning and decontamination processes for surfaces contaminated by communicable diseases.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Six (6) months of experience providing security services to a large organization, school, or healthcare facility (including armed services guard duties).
• Valid State Driver’s License with no restrictions.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA); must obtain within ninety (90) days if not currently certified.
• Current Defensive Tactics certification; must obtain within ninety (90) days if not currently certified.
• Current Handle with Care certification; must obtain within ninety (90) days if not currently certified.
• Complete the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) Basic Certification for Security Officer within six (6) months of hire.
• Record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment, with positive employment references addressing:

• Successful completion of job interviews, background and reference checks, fingerprint clearance, physical examinations, and other screenings.
• Submission of all required employment-related documents free of false, misleading, or incomplete information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree in Criminal Justice Administration or successful completion of training in an accredited technical school covering physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques.
• Ability to speak Navajo, Hopi, or Paiute.

• Participation in physical fitness evaluation: 5-mile timed run, sit-ups (1 minute), push-ups (1 minute), sit and reach.
• Independent judgment to ensure appropriate action on security-related issues.
• Ability to deal with high stress, make decisions under pressure, cope with anger/fear/hostility calmly, manage altercations, concentrate, work alone, and adapt to shift work.
• Flexibility, patience, and ability to work in crowded or close areas.

Work Environment

• Prolonged work in outdoor weather conditions, including extreme cold or heat.
