Security Officer

Pay: $17/hr
About the role
Responsible for providing a high level of guest service to all guests, team members, and vendors. Ensures the safety and security of the property and its patrons. Responds to security incidents and provides a visible security presence inside and outside the facility. Observes patrons participating in gambling activities to detect and respond to infractions of house rules. Maintains professionalism, customer service, and integrity while representing the Company.
Responsibilities
- Provide a high level of guest service to all guests, team members, and vendors.
- Ensure the safety of all guests and team members on the property.
- Record investigation and incident reports in a timely manner.
- Assist with the transfer of money throughout the property.
- Patrol property during shift to ensure safety.
- Maintain property rules, policies, and regulations set by the Company and the Virginia Racing Commission (VRC).
- Stand posts in various locations for extended times as assigned.
- Control and diffuse potential problems; assist team members and guests in emergencies.
- Control access to the property and restricted areas.
- Respond to calls for assistance immediately.
- Maintain radio contact with base during assigned shift.
- Check identification for gaming floor admittance; greet guests and vendors positively and professionally.
- Maintain crowd control, ensuring a friendly environment and defusing guest incidents.
- Compose written reports; observe, handle, and report procedural violations and illegal activity.
- Report to supervisor/manager on day-to-day activities.
- Attend periodic meetings and training sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
- Successful completion of training programs as required by jurisdiction and property.
- Ability to communicate and comprehend information and ideas in spoken and written English.
- Ability to accept, prioritize, and follow through on work direction.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Ability to remain calm, utilizing rational thinking and decision-making by employing conflict-resolution.
- Ability to work with both guests and fellow team members in a professional and courteous manner, promoting positive customer relations.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in customer service, law enforcement, military, or security, or pursuing a degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Basic computer skills required, such as knowledge of Word and ability to learn and utilize menu-driven programs.
- Must obtain valid racing license, where applicable.
- May be required to hold a valid driver’s license with a minimum of three year’s driving experience.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Frequently required to sit or stand for extended amounts of time; walk for extended amounts of time; use hands to finger, reach, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
- May be required to lift, push, and pull up to 25 lbs.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Exposed to an environment with flashing lights.
- Required to circulate throughout assigned areas, including smoking areas, actively observing players and functioning of machines.
