About the role
This position ensures the security, safety, and well-being of Renown Health Property and its occupants. Key leadership competencies include ownership, innovation, pride/joy in work, collaboration, adaptability, integrity, and trust.
Responsibilities
- Ensures a secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors at all Renown Health properties.
- Works to build a cooperative and proactive department using current law enforcement, security, and crime prevention technologies.
- Responds to the needs and inquiries of the Renown Health community and strives for a safe and secure environment.
- Sets standards for cross-disciplinary work to improve customer service.
- Responds to all calls assigned and ensures the making of reports and maintaining records.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and informs Security Officer in charge of all instances of necessary statutory reporting to state and federal agencies.
- Promotes crime prevention and utilizes proactive techniques to reduce crime, theft, and loss of Renown Health property.
- Administers patient restraints when authorized by an approved medical practitioner.
- Is cross-trained as a security dispatcher.
- Detains individuals subject to arrest who pose an immediate threat.
- Maintains interaction with local law enforcement agencies such as Reno Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff’s Department, Nevada State Police, University of Nevada Police, Department of Public Health Investigations, and others.
- Works all shifts and responds to emergencies as needed.
- May require overtime to ensure minimum staffing levels.
- Provides all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school degree preferred; college degree in Criminal Justice or another related field preferred.
- 1-year experience in law enforcement/security is desirable.
- Healthcare Security experience is desirable.
- High level of motivation and creativity in problem solving preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills preferred.
- Strong team building skills and self-motivation are preferred.
- Valid State of Nevada or California driver's license and ability to pass Renown Health's Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria upon hire.
- AHA Heart Saver certification is required within 12 months of hire.
- Department approved handcuffing, OC spray, and de-escalation training certifications are required within 90 days of hire.
- IAHSS Basic Security Officer certification is preferred.
Skills
- Working-level knowledge of the English language.
- Understanding of police and security principles.
- Strong written, verbal, and computer skills.
