Security Officer

MIT Lincoln Laboratory’s Security Department identifies and counters security threats to protect the Laboratory’s mission of developing game-changing technology for National Security. This includes guarding against compromise by foreign intelligence agencies and insider threats, safeguarding facilities, personnel, information systems, and assets, and fostering a collaborative culture where security professionals solve complex problems alongside research teams and government counterparts.

About the role

The Security Department formulates and implements policies, plans, and actions to protect facilities from vandalism, sabotage, and accidental destruction, while safeguarding personnel, classified and unclassified information systems, personally identifiable information, and other assets from exploitation. The department encourages a flexible, technology-focused work environment where mission needs allow for hybrid remote work and flexible schedules.

Responsibilities

• Enforce security regulations and patrol designated areas to prevent unauthorized access.
• Respond to emergencies, including fires, industrial accidents, internal disorder, espionage, sabotage, or other criminal acts.
• Protect Laboratory personnel and property.
• Participate in required training programs.
• Perform other duties as directed.

General requirements for the role:

• Interact with a variety of personnel and work with minimal supervision.
• Obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications.
• Frequent prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, and navigating uneven terrain.
• Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
• Work third shift (11pm–7am) with the possibility of transitioning to first or second shift.
• Telework is not available for this position.

Requirements

• High school graduate; two years of security-related experience preferred (security-related education may substitute for experience).
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearances.
• Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, including compartmented programs.
• Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
• Subject to pre-employment investigation.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• An existing Secret government clearance.

• Interpersonal, organizational, and verbal communication skills.
• Computer skills: familiarity with business software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Office.

Pay

Hiring range: $33.65 per hour (base salary only). The final salary offered will depend on experience, skills, education/training, internal equity, and applicable legal requirements.
