About the role
Under general supervision, the Security Officer performs investigations of crimes and accidents, protects property, facilities, and citizens through law enforcement techniques, provides escort service, and performs related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Campus patrol: Ensure the safety and security of the campus environment by actively monitoring designated areas through regular foot and vehicle patrols, identifying and addressing potential security risks.
- Incident Response: Respond to incidents, including medical emergencies and criminal disturbances, in a timely and efficient manner. Assess situations, provide immediate support, coordinate with other agencies or units if necessary, and ensure the safety of all involved.
- Report Generation: Generate detailed and accurate reports related to daily activities, incidents, and operations.
- Customer Service and Public Interaction: Provide exceptional customer service and maintain positive public relations with students, staff, and visitors. Address inquiries, resolve issues, and ensure a positive experience for all individuals interacting with the department.
- Personal Accountability: Maintain issued gear including uniforms, equipment, and vehicles. Ensure personal readiness and physical ability to conduct duties, and communicate any personal issues that may inhibit abilities to an immediate supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (minimum requirement for entry into the position).
- Ability to hold and maintain an Armed Security License in the state of Tennessee.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of emergency-related or physical security experience.
- 1-2 years of customer service experience.
- Security technology or communications technology experience.
- 1-2 years of combined relevant experience.
- Relevant training certifications can be substituted for experience or education.
- Post-secondary education can be substituted for relevant experience.
- Tennessee State Armed Guard License.

- Communication Systems: Familiarity with radio communication systems, phone systems, and alarm monitoring technologies.
- Record-Keeping Practices: Knowledge of proper documentation and log-keeping practices for security-related activities and incidents.
