Security Officer

Position Summary

Provides security services to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, patients, and visitors.

Essential Functions

• Perform proactive monitoring and respond promptly to potential or actual security threats
• Investigate and manage all security incidents and hazards on hospital premises
• Maintain knowledge of and adhere to policies regarding alarms and emergency/disaster preparedness
• Facilitate drills and simulations for emergency preparedness
• Provide assistance and information to staff and visitors to promote safety

Non-Essential Functions

• Serve both internal staff and external customers, clients, and contractors
• Handle sensitive and/or confidential information
• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; Associate's degree or higher in any discipline preferred
• Experience: Service in active-duty military, reserves, National Guard, or auxiliary police/cadet programs preferred; Minimum of one (1) year of verifiable and successful security experience required; Healthcare security experience preferred; At least six (6) months of customer interaction experience preferred
• Skills & Abilities: Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; Ability to remain calm and take appropriate action in stressful situations; Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills; Effective verbal and written communication in English

Physical and Mental Demands

• Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
• Frequent use of hands for handling equipment and computer tasks
• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed
• Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
• Repetitive upper body motion for computer use

Work Environment and Travel Requirements

• Work is performed in a well-lit, climate-controlled hospital and office setting
• Exposure to hospital-related risks such as bloodborne pathogens, contagious illnesses, chemicals, and biohazard materials
• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required
• Noise levels are typical of office and hospital environments
