About the role
Kamehameha Schools Maui is seeking a motivated and committed Full-Time Security Officer who prioritizes the safety and well‑being of our students, staff, and community, and who contributes actively to a secure, supportive campus environment, to join our campus ʻohana.
Responsibilities
- Monitor CCTV cameras, conduct vehicle and foot patrols of all campus property
- Enforce traffic and parking regulations
- Provide safety and security inspection services
- Investigate and record traffic, criminal and non-criminal incidents
- Manage parking and crowd supervision
- Monitor and restrict access to sacred sites
- Monitor vendors and general public access and restrict entry of unauthorized persons or vehicles
- Direct visitors and delivery vehicles and keep records on specified vehicles entering or leaving campus
- Maintain a safe and secure environment by adhering strictly to security protocols and procedures
- Remain alert to unusual conditions or unauthorized personnel
- Identify potential safety and/or criminal problems and safety hazards and promptly report and monitor to minimize risk
- Oversee traffic flow, parking regulations, and crowd control at both regular school events and special functions on and off-campus
- Respond promptly to emergencies, such as workplace violence, intrusions, violence, natural disasters, fires, assaults, or other crisis situations
- When necessary, pursue, apprehend, and detain individuals within jurisdictional limits, using de-escalation techniques and defensive training
- Make sound decisions in potentially high-stakes situations, exercising precision and consistency to minimize risks and maintain a legally compliant and safe environment
- Enforce entry restrictions for unauthorized persons or vehicles, manage visitor and delivery access, and keep detailed records of campus entries and exits
- Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with KS security standards
- Investigate and document traffic, on-campus criminal, and non-criminal incidents, providing thorough written reports
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience
- Valid Hawaii Driver's license and current driving abstract
- Current DCCA Guard Employee License or ability to obtain certification within 60 days from date of hire
- Current standard First Aid, CPR and AED certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months from date of hire
- Ability to work independently and flexibility to accommodate a rotational schedule, including 24/7 availability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills, allowing effective interaction with KS staff, students, parents, and the public
- Proficient in computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and email, and able to learn, operate, and monitor CCTV systems for recording and review purposes
- Competence in typing and computer use for detailed incident reporting
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a security, police, or emergency response role
- Security experience within a K-12 school environment
- Knowledge of security-related software and applications customarily used in the field
- Specialized training in Crisis Intervention, drone operation, defensive tactics, or similar programs
Skills
- Conduct and support investigations with professionalism, accuracy, and discretion
- Think on their feet and use strong judgment to respond to evolving situations
- Manage large crowds and campus events calmly, effectively, and safely
- Understand and execute safety plans and emergency procedures
- Write clear, accurate, and thorough incident reports
- Apply effective de‑escalation skills to resolve conflicts safely
- Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, faculty, students, families, and community members
- Experience in dispatching, radio communication, and CCTV monitoring (preferred)
Working Conditions
- This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business
- Work is conducted in a school environment and regularly requires work to be conducted in non-standard, outdoor environment
- Work assignments may be conducted 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
