About the role
The Security Officer position at Houston Methodist Continuing Care Hospital is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This includes patrolling and monitoring hospital premises and personnel, providing assistance with personal protection, traffic control, and emergency response services.
Responsibilities
- Maintain high customer satisfaction while ensuring safety and security for patients, visitors, staff, and assets.
- Communicate effectively with management and coworkers on tasks, processes, and procedures.
- Respond to all radio dispatches, answer calls and complaints, and provide appropriate assistance for emergent situations.
- Secure premises and personnel by patrolling facilities, monitoring surveillance cameras, and managing access points.
- Accurately communicate and complete reports by recording occurrences, information, observations, surveillance activities, and conducting witness interviews.
- Respond immediately to all emergency codes and take appropriate action to maintain a safe environment.
- Prevent loss and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures, and utilizing resources with cost-effectiveness and value creation in mind.
- Ensure own career discussions occur with appropriate management and complete and update the My Development Plan on an ongoing basis.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Criminal justice, security, or related experience preferred.
- Required Security Officer state license: Security Officer Non-Commissioned, submission of application within 14 days of hire date, and obtained within one year of employment or Security Officer Commissioned Level 3 or Personal Protection Officer Level 4 licensure and DL - Driver License - State Licensure - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation_PSV.
- Must obtain a Texas DL within 90 days and IAHSS - Certified Security Officer-Basic/Advanced/Supervisor (IAHSS) - International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety_PSV within 90 days and NVCRISIS - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Instructor (CPI) - Crisis Prevention Institute within 60 days.
- Preferred BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
Skills
Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Demonstrates emergency preparedness knowledge and understands HIPAA and patient confidentiality compliance.
