Responsibilities
- Assist the Medical Center Administration in its protection program to provide a safe and secure environment conducive to quality patient care.
- Enforce all established Medical Center and Safety and Security Department policies and procedures related to physical and procedural security.
- Safeguard personnel, prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, materials, and documents, and protect them against theft and damage.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of the New York State Eight Hour Pre-assignment Training Course.
- Successful completion of the New York State Sixteen Hour On-The-Job Training Course and NYS Security Guard License highly preferred.
- Minimum Experience: Experience in the security field and/or law enforcement preferred.
- Required Certification/Registration: Must be registered with the Security Guard Registry in Albany.
- Valid driver’s license without violations meeting insurance carrier criteria.
- Must be certified in BLS.
- Must attend hospital crisis training program within 3 months of hire or transfer and annually thereafter.
Physical Requirements
- Light to heavy duty based on job requirements and emergency situations.
- Must be able to endure physical elements such as standing, walking, running, and possible physical confrontation.
- Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated, or ventilated facility with no routine exposure to hazards.
- Works inside and outside of the facility; may be subjected to extended periods of outside work if assigned as a vehicle operator, traffic controller, or exterior post assignments.
- May come in contact with or be exposed to body fluids of deceased patients and/or infectious matter; must follow all Medical Center and Infection Control policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.
- Visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
- Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing, and/or constant walking.
- Ability to lift up to an average of 150 lbs occasionally as part of a two-person lift.
- Lifting from floor to standing position up to 35 pounds occasionally (supplies and deliveries).
- Front or side carrying up to 25 pounds occasionally, various distances depending on location.
- Walking up to 5 miles during shift depending upon assignment.
- Respond to emergency situations using stairwells when elevators are not in use or prohibited by policy.
- Sitting up to six hours during stationary post.
- Standing up to six hours during stationary post.

Pay
The compensation range for this role is $21.85 - $24.59 hourly. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining compensation, several factors may be considered, such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity.
