Security Officer

About the role
Uniformed Security Officers protect buildings, grounds, assets, employees, students, and visitors from criminal activity, accidents, fires, and natural disasters. They also provide outstanding customer service to clients and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Guard entry and exit points of client buildings and grounds.
- Conduct foot and/or vehicle patrols of interior and exterior areas to ensure safety and security.
- Prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.
- Verify employee, vendor, and visitor identifications.
- Monitor for suspicious people, packages, and activities.
- Follow site-specific post guidelines.
- Document daily activities and report all incidents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). (Must be 21+ and hold a Michigan CPL or LEOSA card for armed security work).
- No felony convictions (per MCL 338.106010(1)(c)).
- No misdemeanor convictions related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information/evidence, controlled substances (including marijuana), or two or more alcohol-related offenses (per MCL 338.106010(1)(c)).
- Pass a drug screening at hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
- Adhere to company Uniform and Appearance policy; present a friendly, professional image.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including de-escalation in non-confrontational ways.
- Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification and administer care in emergencies.
- Ability to move quickly, including running short distances, to respond to emergencies.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk long distances (including stairs) for 8–12 hour shifts.
- Ability to work indoors or outdoors in all seasons.
- Ability to hear conversations (in person or via 2-way radio) in noisy environments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (70 lbs for armed security officers).
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
Benefits
Part-time employees may qualify for benefits after 1 year of employment, averaging 20+ hours per week. Benefits are offered annually in November to eligible employees. Eligibility may change if availability reduces scheduled hours below requirements.
Pay
Rate of pay: $20.00/hour.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, various days.
- Part-time hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
