Summary
Provides protection for patients, caregivers, visitors, support personnel, tenants, property, and all organizational assets within the facilities and grounds of Children’s of Alabama. Ensures a safe and secure environment through proactive patrol, monitoring, emergency response, and enforcement of hospital policies and procedures.
Other information
- Operate a full-size vehicle in accordance with hospital driver record requirements.
- Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of up to two (2) consecutive hours while assigned to fixed posts or conducting patrols.
- Climb up to four (4) flights of stairs within two (2) minutes to assist with emergency response and evacuations.
- Run or walk one (1) mile within twenty (20) minutes to respond to alarms or emergency situations.
- Lift up to seventy (70) pounds and apply physical force when necessary, including hands-on engagement for restraints and emergency operations.
- Successfully qualify with a department-approved firearm on a designated course, as required by assignment.
- Work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, incliment weather and rotating shifts.
- Demonstrate basic keyboarding skills and proficiency with computers and electronic reporting systems.
- Compliance with department dress code and uniform standards.
- No visible tattoos while in uniform.

- Receive, secure, and log lost property.
- Respond to security/emergency calls where needed.
- Enforce visitation and weapons policies.
- Respond to alarms and calls for service.
- Provide relief coverage for fixed post assignments.
- Dispatch officers as required.
- Monitor alarms and incoming calls for service.
