Areas of Responsibility
- Access Control
- Be governed by, and demonstrate, Courtesy, Professionalism, & Respect during all assignments and interactions
- Stay alert to conditions requiring attention
- Immediately report any crime, accident, hazard, or unusual activity
- Maintain activity log and complete daily reports
- Motor Patrol
- Conduct mounted and dismounted patrols of BNYDC areas
- Enforce traffic rules, monitor illegal dumping
- Assist the Sergeant with relaying equipment and supplies to Officers on posts
- Monitor vessels at piers and dry docks
- Monitor vehicles parked at building loading docks
- Assist in directing or escorting emergency response vehicles
- Command Center
- Supervise radio/communications checks with all posts following each shift change over
- Communicate incidents or environmental information and activity that is observable via video surveillance
- Record all reports received by guard posts, radio, or telephone in the security database
- Monitor emergency services and marine base stations, inform appropriate gate or post of approaching emergency vehicles/vessels
- Track vessels by piers and dry docks. Report their name, ship type, general cargo type, arrival and departure times
- Report degraded or interrupted video surveillance, access control, or communications
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
- Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service during all interactions with employees, tenants, visitors, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in-person, over radio, via written reports, etc.
- Strong punctuality and time management skills
- Must be able to report to your shift/assigned post on time
- Proficiency with computers, radios, and video surveillance systems
- 8-hour & 16 hour Security Training Certificates required
- Valid Security License required
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Introduction to Radio Communications (LET540), Texas A&M Engineering Extension (or equivalent) (within three months)
- Certificate of Fitness F-01 Citywide Fire Guard for Impairment, City of New York (within three months)
- Certificate of Fitness F-04 for Temporary Indoor/ Outdoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel (within three months)
- CPR / Basic First Aid /AED Training, American Red Cross or American Heart Association (within six months)
- Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) (LET543), Texas A&M Engineering Extension or APCO International (or equivalent) (within one year)
