Security Officer Associate

About the role

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) seeks an Associate to join the Security Department at its Charlotte, North Carolina headquarters. This position performs security duties to protect persons and property, and does not exceed 1000 hours of work per year.

Responsibilities

• Screen pedestrian and vehicular traffic to confirm authorized entry
• Aid in medical emergencies involving sick or injured persons
• Operate security systems and equipment, including card access, fire and burglar alarms, CCTV, and BGEA vehicles
• Handle disruptive individuals and situations with appropriate judgment and discretion
• Document incoming emergency calls during non-business hours and distribute information
• Follow call-in procedures for BGEA management and staff in case of emergencies
• Be familiar with all BGEA facilities, policies, procedures, and regulations affecting safety and security
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Requirements

• Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ
• Faithfully uphold BGEA in prayer
• Participate in daily BGEA staff devotions including Bible reading and leading group prayer as schedule permits
• Demonstrate behavior aligned with BGEA’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Hallmarks, policies, and expectations
• Effectively represent Jesus Christ in both personal and professional spheres of influence

Qualifications

• Minimum Associate’s degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in a job-related field
• 5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to read, interpret documents, write routine reports, speak effectively, and solve practical problems
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts, and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
• Ability to interpret instructions, and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and good driving record

Skills and Knowledge

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Write routine reports and correspondence
• Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization as required
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record
• Successfully complete BGEA-specified security and safety training as directed, including CPR/AED certification, NC Private Protection Services armed guard training and registration within 6 months after being hired

• Work holidays, nights, and weekends as needed
• Regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
• Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Sensory ability to detect various odors such as: gas leaks; electrical shorts; brush fire smoke; and alcoholic beverages or marijuana
